Reaching Out and Sharing God's Love
February 16, 2012
Pine Forest United Methodist Church ♦ 400 Woods Ave ♦ Dublin GA 31021 ♦ 478/ 272-2441 THE RHYTHM OF DISCIPLESHIP
The robins are in the yard, the baseball teams are on the practice field and the pine pollen is on our cars. These are just a few of the signs that spring is just around the corner. There is a rhythm to life, a discernible pattern to the activities and events around us every day. More than just the change in the weather, there are all kinds of “seasons” in life. In the fourth chapter of Ecclesiastes, we read these words: To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven. Verse 4 gives a few examples of that rhythm of life: A time to weep, And a time to laugh; A time to mourn, And a time to dance.
For centuries, Christians have celebrated and experienced the grace of God through the seasons of the Church year. This rhythm of discipleship teaches us the major themes of the gospel in calendar format. The season of Lent, 40 days before Easter, is, in the words of Ecclesiastes, a time to mourn. We mourn over our sins and the suffering Jesus went through on our behalf. We turn from sin and die to self and then receive the grace of God in fresh power and renewed intensity. This pattern of repentance followed by forgiveness and grace is the rhythm for a life of godliness. There is even a rhythm to the words the preacher says as the ashes are placed on our foreheads on Ash Wednesday: Repent and believe the Good news.
Make plans now to attend this Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. for our Ash Wednesday service. This 30-minute service will be held in our beautiful Sanctuary and will be a meaningful way to begin the season of Lent. Immediately following the service, you are invited to take a walking prayer tour through the rooms that will be used for our 40 Days in the Word. Pray that God will continue to give us a rhythm of renewal at Pine Forest, and that He will bless and use the 40 Day study. If you have not signed up for the study, it is not too late. Call the church office today to sign up.

SENIOR FORESTER’S
Wow! What a great crowd when we gathered last Tuesday, February 14 for the Valentine Luncheon. Betty Williams’ food was delicious, the tables were beautifully decorated, Bro. Jack and Ruthanne Key were an inspiration as they shared their love and faith, and Luann Avery and Jean Murphy touched our hearts with the musical message, “The Way That He Loves is so thrilling because… His love reaches even me.” Thanks to Marcia Daniel and Melba Lee as Coordinators of the Month. Our next gathering is Tuesday, March 13 for the St. Patrick Irish Stew Luncheon with Gloria Morgan and Diane Bethea as Coordinators. Sue Hall is our Senior Forester Coordinator. May God’s love be with you all!
JESUS SAVES, AND WE ARE TRYING TO!

MUSIC NOTES…from Mary
I say it often, but I hope you hear me when I say that we are so very blessed by the extraordinary talent in our congregation. What makes it extraordinary? They use it to glorify God and the Holy Spirit is moving in mighty ways! This past Sunday I was moved as I listened to each group and individual. THANK YOU for how you allow God to sing and play through you!
“CAN YOU REALLY SING IN CHOIR JUST FOR THE EASTER MUSIC?” was a question I heard last week. As a matter of fact YES, you can! Some of you have younger children who go to bed early and your children are a higher priority. You say you’re free after 7 or so? If this sounds like your schedule, come join us! We practice our Easter cantata starting around 7:45 each Wednesday and finish up about 8:25. Additionally, there is a practice CD you can play in your car (or load on your iPod or play at home) that will help you as well. Singing cleans the cobwebs out of your soul, so sign up for the easiest Spring Cleaning you can imagine!
Golden Notes: Please meet me in the sanctuary at 8:20 this Sunday to sing for the 8:45 service! I’ll have your music ready and a big smile just for you. On Wednesday, February 22 at 11:45 we will meet for lunch at the Fish Market downtown.
Children’s Bells: What a TREMENDOUS job you did on Sunday—I’m so proud of you! Way to go and I can hardly wait to hear your Spring program. Parents, this end of the year program will be March 28th at 6:30. Since our theme will be lions, please find something gold, black, beige, brown or leopard/lion print to wear. If you have any stuffed lions, please let me know! YOUTH CHOIR: Have fun on the ski trip! No Youth Choir or Praise in Motion this Sunday.
YOUTH News…from Jared
There are no youth activities this Sunday due to the Ski Trip. If you are not going with us on the trip, see you next Wednesday at prayer breakfast!
